Kodiak Robotics, a provider of autonomous vehicle technology, has delivered two additional driverless trucks to Atlas Energy Solutions, expanding the companyās autonomous fleet to four vehicles. The trucks, equipped with Kodiakās AI-powered Driver system, have now begun operating in a near-continuous 24/7 service model, pausing only for refueling and maintenance.
The deployment forms part of a broader order for 100 trucks placed by Atlas and reflects its ongoing strategy to automate its logistics operations. Since the launch of the autonomous service in December 2024, the fleet has delivered more than 800 loads and logged over 1,600 hours of driverless service in the Permian Basin, which spans parts of West Texas and Eastern New Mexico.
The driverless trucks are tasked with transporting frac sand from Atlasās 42-mile Dune Express conveyor system directly to customer well sites, streamlining delivery operations and reducing reliance on human drivers. The most recent vehicles entered service in late May and support Atlasās effort to improve supply chain efficiency and address ongoing labor constraints in the trucking industry.
Atlasās collaboration with Kodiak Robotics is underpinned by a Driver-as-a-Service model, in which customers pay a licensing fee for access to the autonomous system and related support. The partnership has met key performance benchmarks, leading to the firm commitment on the 100-truck order earlier this year. Kodiak continues to advance its technology with capabilities such as night driving, positioning the company to expand its driverless services beyond regional logistics into broader commercial transport.
