Asahi Kasei celebrating their centennial by unveiling AKXY2 Autonomous concept

Japanese company Asahi Kasei is celebrating its 100th anniversary by launching the AKXY2 concept car.

The futuristic pod-shaped concept car is visually similar to the Wienermobile in every way. The futuristic pods are designed to create sustainable vehicles and meet future mobility needs in terms of automation and electrification.

This concept car features a ‘split’ body with a slim bottom and top glass canopy. Then the door model folds down to provide access to the cabin.

Other features include a lighting unit, aerodynamic wheel covers and use of S-SBR tires made of bio-based butadiene and low rolling resistance.

The futuristic design continues in the cabin as there is an ottoman as well as two individual Pinch-padded seats, which feature a 3D mesh material made of bio-based PET and PTT. Elsewhere, there are Dinamica microfiber upholstery, a small wooden table, and a minimalist information display. Since this model lacks a steering wheel and pedals, assume that the concept is fully autonomous.

Technological features go beyond driving systems as the concept has been complemented by the company’s Healthy Car Product Portfolio. Among its features are antimicrobial fabrics and a CO2 sensor that works to ensure good air quality.

According to Asahi Kasei America’s Director of Mobility North America, Mike Franchy, “AKXY2 demonstrates our expertise as a trusted OEM and Tier-1 partner for interior and exterior components and technologies.”

The AKXY2 concept car will be shown at a number of events, such as the North American International Auto Show in September and CES in January 2023.
