Archer Aviation has successfully completed its first test flight of the Midnight electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft at Al Bateen Executive Airport in Abu Dhabi. The flight marks a significant step toward launching commercial air taxi operations in the United Arab Emirates and scaling the company’s footprint in the Middle East.
The demonstration, conducted in collaboration with the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council (SASC), was attended by representatives from key regulatory and transport bodies, including the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), and Abu Dhabi Aviation. The test flight focused on evaluating the aircraft’s vertical takeoff and landing capabilities in conditions specific to the UAE, including high temperatures, humidity, and dust.
Archer plans to expand its flight-testing campaign in the region, using the results to support the aircraft’s certification and readiness for commercial deployment. The data gathered under local environmental conditions will contribute to validation processes in both the UAE and other target markets.
The test flight is part of Archer’s broader strategy to establish Abu Dhabi as its first commercial market under its Launch Edition program. As part of this initiative, the company is working closely with Abu Dhabi Aviation to prepare for air taxi services, supported by recent milestones such as regulatory design approval for a hybrid heliport at the Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal.
Archer is continuing to advance regulatory and commercial efforts in both the United States and the UAE. The Launch Edition strategy targets early adopter cities, positioning Abu Dhabi as a leader in advanced air mobility by integrating next-generation aircraft into its transport ecosystem.
