Apple Maps is expected to introduce navigation warnings for Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapters in an upcoming update to iOS, according to a code analysis shared this week.

Aaronp613, a code sleuth on social media platform X, revealed on Monday that Apple’s iOS 18.4 beta contains new references to NACS charging adapters. The update appears to include voice alerts and on-screen warnings, informing drivers when an adapter is required for specific charging routes.

Apple has not officially announced the feature, but the discovery comes as the company continues integrating vehicle-related functionality into its ecosystem. The latest iOS version available is 18.3.1, and the update is expected to arrive amid broader efforts to improve EV compatibility across different platforms.

Tesla has been expanding access to its Supercharger network for non-Tesla vehicles, requiring some owners to use NACS-to-CCS adapters. The upcoming Apple Maps alerts could help EV drivers ensure they have the necessary equipment before arriving at a charging station.

“As more automakers adopt Tesla’s charging standard, features like this will be useful for drivers transitioning to the new system,” the X user noted.

Several automakers announced partnerships in 2023 to integrate NACS into future models, while also offering adapters for existing CCS-equipped vehicles. Apple’s update aligns with this industry-wide shift toward standardizing EV charging infrastructure.
