Apple hires former Lamborghini executive for its own EV project

Apple has been developing its first vehicles for the past few years. But it was marred by disappointment and procrastination. But Apple continues to push and develop its autonomous vehicle possibilities.

The newest member to the team developing this super-secret project is Luigi Taraborelli, who has worked with Lamborghini for two decades. Taraborelli is the Chief of Chassis and Vehicle Dynamics at Lamborghini.

Citing GSM Arena, Taraborelli will lead the design team for Apple’s future car. Apple is clearly stepping up its efforts with highly focused recruitment, as Taraborrelli has contributed to a number of Lamborghini projects, including the Urus, Huracan and Aventador.

For information, Taraborrelli contributed to the limited off-road edition of the Lamborghini Huracan, namely the Sterrato, and helped develop the Asterion concept. Taraborrelli’s previous experience in the chassis, handling, suspension, steering and brake systems has attracted Apple as it enters the final stages of vehicle design.

Taraborrelli joins Desi Ujkashevic, Ford’s former head of car safety development, who joined Apple in May. The Apple team has been backed by Ulrich Kranz, former head of Canoo and former head of BMW’s EV division, and Stuart Bowers, former head of Tesla’s Autopilot team.

Apple has been quietly developing not only cars but the individual teams that will drive its auto division over the next few years. Some of the best engineers from Tesla, Rivian, Waymo, Volvo and Mercedes-Benz have developed this project.

In addition, Senior Design Executives from Tesla, McLaren, Porsche and Aston Martin, will add to the wealth of valuable experience from this division. Regarding the design of the vehicle which was supposed to be launched in 2025, this car will allow passengers to drive facing each other.

Apple took a long time to develop this electric vehicle because the technology giant company wants to bring this car without a steering wheel or other control devices.

Apple aims to make its first electric vehicle the world’s first fully autonomous car. Apple wants to achieve a moment like it did at the launch of the first generation iPhone, but in the automotive industry.

However, a number of team members have left Apple, namely Doug Field, who was the first project leader and joined Apple after resigning from Tesla, as well as Ian Goodfellow, an AI specialist.

Currently, this car project is headed by Kevin Lynch and John Giannandrea. Apple has been developing its cars since 2014, proving the magnitude of the task at hand.

There are changes that have occurred in the development journey of Apple’s first electric car, including new leadership, as well as rumors that Apple has decided to completely discontinue the project.

Even so, Apple continues to advance and take advantage of the latest technological developments in the realm of artificial intelligence (AI) and autonomous driving.
