APM Terminals Pier 400 in Los Angeles has announced the deployment of the port’s largest fleet of electric terminal tractors (ETTs), marking a significant step toward its goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2030. The deployment began with 10 fully commissioned ETTs from U.S. manufacturer Orange EV, with another 10 set to arrive by the end of July.
Once the second batch is delivered, nearly one-third of Pier 400’s diesel terminal tractor fleet will be replaced with electric alternatives. The initiative underscores APM Terminals’ commitment to decarbonising its operations and supporting cleaner air in surrounding communities.
“This is not just an investment in equipment, it’s an investment in the upskilling of the workforce,” said Jon Poelma, Managing Director of APM Terminals Pier 400. “Our partnership with PCMC is foundational to our success, and this rollout reflects how we move forward together.”
Orange EV, based in Kansas City, has been a leader in electric yard truck technology and previously supplied vehicles to clients such as DHL and logistics provider YMX. The company opened a new 44,000-square-foot facility last year to support growing demand.
Joe Gregorio Jr., President and COO of PCMC, added: “We’re proud to be part of an effort that values upskilling and union craftsmanship alongside much needed progress to decarbonize supply chains.”
