Wing, the Alphabet-owned drone delivery company, said it will expand its partnership with Walmart to bring on-demand drone deliveries to an additional 150 stores across the United States, marking the second major expansion of the collaboration in less than a year.

The companies announced on Sunday that the rollout will build on existing operations in the Dallas-Fort Worth and Atlanta areas and will take place throughout this year and into 2027. Once completed, Wing will operate from more than 270 Walmart locations nationwide, including stores in Los Angeles, St. Louis, Cincinnati and Miami, reaching roughly 10% of the U.S. population.

The expansion reflects increasing customer usage of Wing’s service, which delivers groceries, over-the-counter medicines and prepared items such as coffee. Heather Rivera, Wing’s chief business officer, said demand among frequent users has been strong, with the company’s top quarter of customers placing orders multiple times a week. Commonly delivered items include fresh food staples, snacks and household essentials.

The announcement follows plans disclosed in June 2025 to launch drone delivery services in additional cities including Houston, Orlando, Tampa and Charlotte. According to the company, Houston will be the next market to go live, with service expected to begin on January 15.

Wing’s growing footprint with Walmart highlights the company’s shift from experimental origins as a former Google X project to a commercially focused logistics provider. While Wing also has a partnership with DoorDash, Walmart remains its primary channel for scaling drone delivery operations.

The two companies first partnered in 2023 with a pilot program at two Walmart stores in the Dallas area, serving around 60,000 households. The service later expanded to 18 Walmart Supercenters in the Dallas-Fort Worth region before entering the Atlanta market.

Wing said it continues to refine its technology and operating model as it scales. The company recently completed its first commercial flights using a larger drone capable of carrying payloads of up to five pounds. Rivera said Wing is concentrating on integrating closely with Walmart’s store operations and may continue to scale through clustered store launches, an approach it has previously used.

“And so that is what I’m here to do, and excited about,” Rivera said, referring to her mandate to scale the business, adding that higher order volumes are central to improving the company’s economics as it expands into more markets.
