All Volkswagen R’s with electric powertrains by 2030

The plans of the German manufacturer, Volkswagen (VW), to make a total transition from conventional car production to electric power in 2035 will be carried out thoroughly. This means that all brand variants will change their powertrain, including the R variant.

The automaker has confirmed with Autocar that all of its R-branded vehicles will only use electric power by 2030.

Reinhold Ivenz, boss of the R brand, told the publication that they had already started taking the necessary steps to prepare for the transformation. Volkswagen has also confirmed that it has several electric R models in the planning stages.

However, they revealed there is no definite “deadline” when we could see the first electric R models. VW gave some details about this future model, and the “fast and convenient” charging feature will be its main feature.

The vehicle will also benefit from the latest technology derived from the concept and the race track. According to rumors, Volkswagen’s Scalable System Platform will likely support the new electric R model.

As is known, the Volkswagen R variants include the Golf, Tiguan, T-Roc, and others. The first electric R could come from one of the VW ID branded vehicles, which are selling well in the market. ID.4 hit a new sales record in the US in Q3 2022.

Volkswagen’s shift to EVs won’t happen overnight, with the company planning a gradual transition. While the company is laying the groundwork for its electrification strategy right now, there’s always a chance it could change.

Surely observers and lovers of this iconic car are hoping to see the first electric R model sooner, as this high-performance model will have to face stiff competition as time goes on.
