Alfa Romeo announced the presence of its new car, the 2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale which they dubbed “La Metamorfosi”. The nickname is in line with the Tonale’s position as the first C-SUV from the Italian manufacturer, as well as marking a new era of luxury, electrification and connectivity, while remaining true to its racing DNA.

His presence was even more special when Alfa Romeo also made the Tonale the first car in the world equipped with an NFT digital certificate or non-fungible token. With the customer’s approval, the NFT certificate will later record vehicle data, to ensure that the car is well maintained.

That way, if the car is to be resold, the NFT certification can be a credible source that the owner can rely on. Since this technology is based on the concept of “blockchain card”, the records are confidential and cannot be modified.

The presence of NFT as a complementary certificate cannot be separated from Tonale’s position in the young, metropolitan and dynamic market share. With designs done directly at the Alfa Romeo Design Studio at Centro Stile.

Sporting a sporty appearance, the Tonale has compact dimensions, measuring 178.3 inches (4.53 meters) long, 72.4 inches (1.84 meters) wide and 63.0 inches (1.6 meters) high. A number of contemporary Alfa Romeo styles are also embedded in the Tonale. Like the Tribolo-inspired “3+3” headlamp design. Likewise, the taillights also take the same design cues and form a sine curve that encloses them in full.

For propulsion Alfa Romeo presents two powertrain options. The PHEV Q4 AWD, with a six-speed automatic transmission, combines a 15.5 kWh lithium ion battery with a 90 kW electric motor and a turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine. With such propulsion, the Tonale can produce 272 horsepower which is claimed to be the best in its class, and an electric range of more than 30 miles (48 kilometers).

The second powertrain option is the Q4 AWD 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that has a nine-speed automatic transmission and horsepower rated at 256 and 295 lb.-ft. torque. Complete with engine stop-start technology that meets super-ultra-low emission standard 30 (SULEV 30).

Complementing the high technology embedded in its new car, Alfa Romeo also uses software and connectivity to enhance the Tonale driver experience in the future.

Therefore, Tonale comes with Uconnect 5, the company’s most advanced in-car technology, capable of delivering faster operating speeds, new content, and better customization.

Uconnect 5 also offers new conveniences and connected services, keeping customers engaged and informed, while they stay focused on driving the Tonale on the road.

Uconnect 5 allows users to create exclusive home screens with a familiar feel. And of course connected to various support services, such as Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

With all that is offered, unfortunately Alfa Romeo has not revealed how much they charge for the Tonale. Because so far Alfa Romeo has only confirmed that the new Alfa Romeo Tonale 2023 will start arriving in their official showrooms across North America in the first quarter of 2023.
