ABB E-Mobility Announces Change in Leadership as Frank Mühlon Steps Down as CEO

ABB E-Mobility, the Swiss-Swedish industrial group’s e-mobility division, has announced that Frank Mühlon is stepping down as CEO and moving to the role of Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). Michael Halbherr, who has experience in software and technology leadership positions, will take over as interim CEO with immediate effect.

Mühlon had previously played a key role in building and leading ABB E-Mobility’s charging pillar business, and had taken over as CEO when the division was spun off as a separate entity in preparation for an IPO. However, the exact reasons for his replacement as CEO have not been disclosed.

Despite the change in leadership, Mühlon will remain with the company in his new role as CCO. Halbherr stated that the Executive Committee will focus on customer satisfaction and deepening hardware and software capabilities to ensure technology leadership in ABB E-Mobility’s customer-facing business lines.

In addition to Halbherr’s appointment as interim CEO, ABB E-Mobility has also added two new members to its Executive Committee: Daniel Alarcon as Chief Digital Officer (CDO) and Francesco Mennucci as Chief Operations Officer (COO).

Furthermore, ABB E-Mobility’s division will now be reported as a sub-segment of Corporate and Other at ABB, rather than as part of the Electrification business unit, as the company prepares for its planned IPO.

Overall, ABB E-Mobility appears to be undergoing significant changes as it focuses on increasing its customer-centric approach and accelerating strategic investments in market-leading hardware and software platforms. While Mühlon’s departure as CEO is a major change for the company, his continued involvement as CCO suggests that he will still play a key role in ABB E-Mobility’s future growth.
