American Axle & Manufacturing (AAM) has signed an agreement to supply front electric drive units (EDUs) and rear e-Beam axles to Scout Motors for its upcoming lineup of all-electric vehicles. The deal supports Scout’s planned return to the U.S. market with the launch of the Traveler SUV and Terra pickup truck, both set for initial production in 2027.
The partnership is positioned as a pivotal step in the revival of the Scout brand, originally produced by International Harvester between 1961 and 1980. AAM will deliver drivetrain components essential to the performance of the new vehicles, which will be built on a body-on-frame electric platform aimed at capturing the rugged appeal of the original Scout.
Scout Motors is designing its electric vehicles to accommodate a variety of customer needs through 100% battery-electric configurations. The company is emphasizing vehicle durability, off-road capability, and electric efficiency to appeal to a new generation of consumers transitioning to electric mobility.
AAM, headquartered in Detroit, is a global Tier 1 automotive supplier with over 75 facilities in 16 countries. Its collaboration with Scout Motors reflects a shared focus on American engineering and domestic manufacturing. “We are honored to support the rebirth of the iconic Scout brand and play a significant role in these important vehicle launches,” said David C. Dauch, AAM’s Chairman and CEO.
With reservations now open, Scout Motors is advancing toward full-scale production in 2027, signaling a growing wave of interest in electrified body-on-frame vehicles for the U.S. market.
