Tesla is facing backlash, including calls for boycotts, after comments made by CEO Elon Musk regarding Germany’s history from the 1930s and 1940s. Musk suggested that Germany should “move past” its dark history, which has sparked outrage, particularly from Polish Minister Sławomir Nitras.
In late January, Nitras called for a consumer boycott of Tesla, stating that “there is no justification for any reasonable Pole to continue purchasing Teslas.” He emphasized the need for a strong response, including a consumer-driven boycott. Tesla had a strong presence in Poland last year, selling 4,460 units and becoming the most popular electric vehicle (EV) brand in the country, surpassing rivals like Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, BMW, and Audi.
Musk’s comments come amid a history of politically charged statements that have drawn criticism from various quarters. In the past, Tesla has faced boycotts in countries like Germany, where consumers abandoned their Teslas due to Musk’s political support for President Donald Trump during the election period.
Despite the growing pushback, Tesla has also seen continued support, particularly from conservative groups who have rallied behind Musk and his ventures, even in the face of his controversial political stances. Some fans of the company have expressed stronger loyalty to Tesla, driven by their admiration for Musk’s leadership and his companies.
