Mercedes-Benz has commenced production of the eActros 600 electric semi-truck at its Wörth plant in Bavaria, marking a milestone in Daimler Truck’s electrification efforts. With an all-electric range of up to 500 kilometers (310 miles), the eActros 600 is designed to meet the demands of long-haul trucking in Europe.
“The start of series production of our eActros 600 is a further proof of our ambition to transform the industry,” said Karin Rådström, CEO of Daimler Truck. Highlighting the truck’s potential, Rådström added, “Our battery-electric long-haul truck will therefore make a real difference in reducing CO2 emissions from heavy road freight, which account for two-thirds of emissions in this segment.”
The eActros 600 is powered by a 600+ kWh battery, enabling it to cover over 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) per day with intermediate charging during mandatory driver breaks. Unlike its predecessors, the eActros 600 is the first electric truck in Mercedes’ lineup to be manufactured on the same production line as combustion-engine models.
Andreas Bachhofer, Head of the Wörth site and Production at Mercedes-Benz Trucks, noted, “Construction of this first battery-electric truck made in Wörth will be fully integrated into the existing assembly hall. This approach allows for flexible production and positions us well for larger-scale manufacturing.”
The truck’s advanced battery system can be charged from 20% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes at a megawatt charging station. This feature, combined with the truck’s innovative electric drive axle, ensures efficiency for long-haul operators.
Production will ramp up gradually, with first deliveries scheduled for the first quarter of 2025. As Europe prepares for a wider rollout of megawatt charging infrastructure, Mercedes-Benz aims to support its customers in transitioning to cleaner, electric long-haul solutions.
