Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) announced its entry into the UK automotive market through a distributor agreement with International Motors Ltd (IML). This move marks another step in Xpeng’s broader international expansion strategy.
Xpeng plans to introduce the G6, its flagship SUV, to the UK market in early 2024. The company described the UK as a critical entry point into the broader European market. IML, a long-established automotive distributor with operations across the UK, Ireland, and northern Europe, will facilitate Xpeng’s debut in the region.
The G6 was previewed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024 earlier this year, offering potential UK customers a first look at the model. Xpeng highlighted this showcase as a milestone in its partnership with IML, which aims to bring the company’s EV offerings to a wider audience.
Since commencing deliveries in Norway in 2020, Xpeng has expanded its reach across multiple European countries, including Germany, France, the Netherlands, and Portugal. The company plans to further its international footprint, with a presence in over 60 global markets by 2025 and a vision for overseas markets to contribute to half of its sales.
Xpeng aims to differentiate itself in the UK and beyond by emphasizing safer, smarter, and more sustainable driving experiences. The G6, a tech-forward SUV, is positioned as a key vehicle in achieving this mission.
The company’s broader strategy reflects its ambition to become a global artificial intelligence (AI) automotive leader, delivering advanced mobility solutions tailored to diverse international markets.
