JW Lees, the UK-based brewer and pub operator, has partnered with charge point operator Be.EV to install ultra-rapid EV charging stations across seven of its pub locations in North-West England. The initiative aligns with JW Lees’ strategy to support sustainable travel options for its patrons, with installations spanning across its North-West sites.
Under the partnership, Be.EV will install 22 new ultra-rapid charging bays, alongside upgrades to existing chargers. The total investment for the project is estimated to exceed £1.8 million. Charging infrastructure is already available for public use at five JW Lees locations: The Urmston (Stretford), The Millgate (Failsworth), The Aviator (Stockport), The Bluebird Inn (Balderstone), and Duke of Gloucester (Crewe). The remaining sites, The Pointing Dog in Cheadle and The Moss Trooper in Altrincham, will be equipped with chargers by early 2025.
With over 150 pubs throughout North-West England and North Wales, JW Lees is positioning itself as a leader in pub-based EV charging. The chargers across these locations are anticipated to benefit approximately 12,500 local EV drivers in addition to those visiting the area.
Be.EV CEO Asif Ghafoor commented on the partnership, saying, “Working with JW Lees, we’re creating a convenient option for EV drivers to recharge while they enjoy their time at the pub. This is a significant step toward building reliable EV infrastructure that communities can depend on.”
William Lees-Jones, Managing Director of JW Lees, added, “As an EV driver myself, I know firsthand how valuable reliable charging is. Our collaboration with Be.EV demonstrates our commitment to providing EV-friendly facilities for our customers, enhancing the overall pub experience.”
