Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) announced its upcoming Range Rover Electric has attracted substantial pre-order interest, with over 48,000 clients joining the waitlist ahead of its expected unveiling later this year. The all-electric SUV is set to become the first of JLR’s next-generation zero-emission vehicles.
JLR disclosed the high demand while announcing its financial results for the first half of fiscal 2025. According to the automaker, demand for its plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) contributed to a 29% year-over-year sales increase, with PHEV sales rising 47% globally. The company sees this trend as indicative of customer interest in transitioning to battery electric vehicles (BEVs), describing PHEVs as a “stepping stone” toward full electrification.
Equipped with a new in-house powertrain, the Range Rover Electric aims to maintain the brand’s renowned off-road capability. The vehicle will feature an advanced traction control system designed for all-terrain performance and will have a wading depth of 850 mm (33.8 inches), surpassing the GMC Hummer EV’s depth capability. JLR is currently testing the vehicle’s performance in challenging conditions to meet these high standards.
JLR’s debut electric Range Rover is expected to be followed by additional all-electric models, including a possible smaller Velar variant seen in public testing in August.
