Abarth has officially revealed the specifications for the new 600e, marking its entry into the electric vehicle market with its first-ever electric crossover.
This model stands out as the most powerful production vehicle to bear the Scorpion emblem, available in two variants: the Turismo, producing 237 hp, and the high-performance Scorpionissima, boasting 278 hp. The production of the Scorpionissima is limited to 1,949 units, commemorating the founding year of the Italian brand.
Initially announced in early 2024 with a projected output of 237 hp (177 kW / 240 PS), the Abarth 600e has undergone enhancements similar to those seen in the closely related Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce. Stellantis has managed to extract additional power from the single electric motor, resulting in the more robust performance for the Scorpionissima launch special, which delivers 278 hp (207 kW / 280 PS).
The Turismo version retains the original output of 237 hp (177 kW / 240 PS) and maintains the same torque figure of 345 Nm (254.5 lb-ft). Drivers can select from three driving modes—Turismo, Scorpion Street, and Scorpion Track—allowing for varying power levels and adjustments to the electronic stability program (ESP). Power is sent to the front axle via a Torsen mechanical limited-slip differential.
In Scorpion Track mode, the 600e can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 5.85 seconds for the Scorpionissima and 6.24 seconds for the Turismo, with a top speed electronically capped at 200 km/h (124 mph).
Developed in collaboration with Stellantis Motorsport, the Abarth 600e features components from notable partners, including Michelin, Sabelt, JTEKT Torsen, and Alcon. It is built on the “Perfo eCMP” platform, an upgraded version of the standard eCMP architecture that supports several Stellantis hatchbacks and SUVs. The Abarth-specific chassis incorporates Alcon brakes, a stiffer suspension, a rear anti-roll bar, and wider tracks. The 54 kWh battery pack is equipped with a specialized cooling system designed to enhance performance. However, the Abarth 600e’s WLTP range stands at 334 km (208 miles), which is less than the Fiat version that can achieve an additional 75 km (46 miles) per charge.
To distinguish the Abarth 600e from its Fiat counterpart, the design team has implemented a unique body kit, featuring deeper front and rear bumpers, 20-inch alloy wheels, and a prominent rear spoiler. The squared-off bumper design is inspired by the classic Abarth 850 TC “cassettone.”
The color palette for the new model includes exclusive shades like Acid Green and the Scorpionissima-exclusive Hypnotic Purple, alongside Antidote White, Shock Orange, and Venom Black. The launch special also includes glossy black accents, black decals, and colored brake calipers.
Inside, the Abarth 600e features Sabelt bucket seats with integrated headrests, upgraded Alcantara upholstery in the Scorpionissima, and a more aggressive design compared to the fabric upholstery of the Turismo. Standard equipment includes a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Abarth-specific graphics, a six-speaker audio system, ChatGPT integration, and Level 2 advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). Notably, Abarth’s artificial sound generator is exclusive to the Scorpionissima.
The Abarth 600e will be available for order in key European markets starting October 29, 2024. Pricing in the UK begins at £36,975 ($48,044) for the Turismo variant and £41,975 ($54,540) for the Scorpionissima. For comparison, the smaller and less powerful Abarth 500e starts at £31,195 ($40,536) in the same market.
