Xiaomi, the Chinese tech titan, has taken a bold step into the high-performance electric vehicle (EV) market with the debut of its luxury SU7 Ultra sedan. Unveiled at a comprehensive product launch event in Beijing, the new EV highlights Xiaomi’s intent to compete with established automotive giants.
Priced at RMB 814,900 ($114,200), the SU7 Ultra is nearly four times more costly than the standard SU7 model. The company has already opened pre-orders, requiring a refundable deposit of RMB 10,000, ahead of the model’s official release in March 2025.
The SU7 Ultra, described by Xiaomi’s founder and CEO Lei Jun as his “Dream Car,” is designed to cater to EV enthusiasts who prioritize speed and performance. “This is our way of pushing the boundaries,” Lei noted during the launch, explaining the motivation behind creating a vehicle that challenges premium brands.
The new SU7 Ultra includes three powerful motors: two Xiaomi V8s motors that each generate 578 horsepower and a V6s motor delivering 392 horsepower. Altogether, this setup offers a combined 1,548 horsepower, allowing the SU7 Ultra to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.98 seconds and reach top speeds exceeding 350 km/h. Xiaomi claims this performance makes the SU7 Ultra the fastest four-door production car globally.
The car’s high-voltage 800 V platform, combined with its 5.2 C charging multiplier, supports fast charging, enabling the vehicle to reach 80% battery capacity in only 11 minutes.
This efficient charging capability is designed to complement the vehicle’s high-speed performance, ensuring the SU7 Ultra is as practical for daily use as it is impressive on the track. Built to withstand the demands of performance driving, the vehicle incorporates advanced carbon-fiber components, performance ceramic brakes, and an aerodynamically optimized body.
Xiaomi has already put the SU7 Ultra through rigorous testing, including a recent record-setting lap at Germany’s famed Nürburgring track. This track is widely regarded as one of the most challenging circuits in the automotive world, serving as a benchmark for vehicle endurance and agility.
The SU7 Ultra completed a full lap in 6 minutes and 46.874 seconds, making it the fastest four-door vehicle on the Nürburgring. Following the trial, Xiaomi revealed that the car’s cooling system performed reliably without any overheating, even after multiple laps at top speed.
In addition to its technological features, the SU7 Ultra reflects Xiaomi’s commitment to luxury, marking a shift in the company’s EV strategy. While the standard SU7, released earlier in March 2025, was priced competitively to appeal to a broader market, the SU7 Ultra is positioned as a premium product aimed at buyers interested in high-end performance.
As Goldman Sachs noted in a recent research report, Xiaomi is expected to sell around 4,000 units of the SU7 Ultra next year at an average price of RMB 800,000, which could contribute up to 5% of Xiaomi’s anticipated EV revenue.
