Ford Motor Company has announced the deployment of a significant software update for its popular electric vehicles, the F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E. This update introduces a seamless end-to-end EV routing experience through Google Maps via Android Auto, marking a notable advancement in Ford’s commitment to enhancing the electric vehicle driving experience for its customers in the United States.

The new functionality allows drivers to access critical real-time information regarding their vehicle’s battery levels, charging stops, and estimated charging durations throughout their journeys. This innovative feature aims to alleviate common concerns associated with electric vehicle ownership, such as range anxiety, by providing drivers with the tools they need to plan their trips effectively. Anthony Phillips, Product Manager at Ford, shared insights into the motivation behind this update, stating, “Our team saw an opportunity to provide customers with an end-to-end EV routing experience in Google Maps, and we’re proud to work with Google to make it happen.”

In addition to enhancing route planning, the update features a key integration with Tesla Supercharger stations. This allows Ford EV owners to easily locate compatible Tesla Supercharger locations, offering them a broader range of charging options during their travels. This is particularly beneficial for those embarking on longer journeys where charging infrastructure may vary. Phillips emphasized the importance of this integration: “By providing our customers with information on where they can recharge their vehicles, we aim to make driving a Ford EV as convenient and accessible as possible.”

The software update was initially announced at CES 2024, where Ford highlighted its ongoing efforts to leverage technology to improve the customer experience for electric vehicle users. The updated features include not only real-time battery level estimates upon arrival at destinations but also predictive information on how long charging will take based on live vehicle data. This combination of features enhances the overall driving experience and gives Ford customers greater confidence in their electric vehicles.

To take advantage of these new routing capabilities, drivers must ensure they have received the latest Ford software update and download the most recent version of Google Maps on their smartphones. Once connected to Android Auto, users can enjoy these advanced features while on the road, making it easier than ever to navigate the growing network of EV charging stations.
