Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker Nio announced a new partnership with Wuhan Shouyi Scientific Innovation Investment Group to expand its battery swap infrastructure in Hubei province. The agreement, part of Nio’s Power Up Partners program, aims to add 100 battery swap and charging stations across the province, significantly boosting the region’s energy replenishment network.

The deal was formalized in a signing ceremony attended by Nio Senior Vice President Shen Fei and Wu Jiang, General Manager of Wuhan Shouyi, according to a statement from Nio. This collaboration marks the first major partnership secured under Nio’s Power Up Partners initiative, which was launched in August.

Nio has been rapidly expanding its charging infrastructure across China. The company currently operates 2,589 battery swap stations, including 866 along highways. In addition, Nio runs 2,403 supercharging stations and 1,657 destination charging stations nationwide. In Hubei province alone, Nio operates 92 battery swap stations, 48 supercharging stations, and 59 destination charging stations, alongside access to over 45,000 third-party charging piles.

This partnership follows an earlier investment in Nio Power, the company’s energy unit, which received RMB 1.5 billion ($210 million) from a strategic investor in Wuhan in May. The funding will support Nio’s ongoing research, development, and operational efforts in charging and battery swap technologies.

Nio continues to hold a 90% stake in Nio Power, which was founded in 2017 in Wuhan. The company remains focused on accelerating infrastructure development through strategic partnerships to enhance energy services for its growing EV customer base.
