Alexander Dennis has officially introduced the next-generation Enviro400EV battery-electric double-decker bus, designed to meet Transport for London’s (TfL) specifications.
The new Enviro400EV features a 472kWh battery as standard, with an offered warranty of 14 years or 1 million kilometers, whichever comes first, under normal operating conditions. A 354kWh battery variant is also available at a lower price point.
The bus can be fully charged in as little as three hours using a DC plug connection, with even faster charging possible through optional roof-mounted connector rails for pantographs. The 472kWh variant can accommodate up to 87 passengers, while the 354kWh version can carry up to 96 passengers.

“For the TfL Enviro400EV, there is a design sweet spot that optimizes available energy and therefore range, as well as vehicle efficiency, length, weight and passenger capacity,” said Ben Werth, Group Sales & Business Development Director for Alexander Dennis. “In addition to detailed route analysis, we have conducted extensive tests with our supply partners at the cell, module, pack and vehicle level, which have shown that 99% of London routes can be fully serviced with our 472kWh battery.”
Transport for London utilizes a variety of suppliers for its electric buses. Recently, TfL ordered a fleet of electric buses from Volvo via Arriva, following the completion of an order from Alexander Dennis just days prior.
