Skoda has unveiled the first official images of its upcoming electric model, the Elroq, cloaked in camouflage foil, along with initial specifications ahead of its global debut scheduled for autumn 2024.
“The figures released for the Elroq, based on the familiar VW MEB platform, reveal intriguing details,” a Skoda spokesperson stated. The Elroq will offer four drive variants, labeled similarly to the Enyaq models: 50, 60, 85, and 85x.
For instance, the Elroq 60 features a revised medium battery version of the MEB platform, boasting a 63 kWh gross capacity (59 kWh net), slightly more than previous versions. While Skoda has not disclosed WLTP range figures for the Elroq 60, it’s expected to be slightly less than the ID.3’s 434 kilometers.
The base model, Elroq 50, utilizes the new entry-level drive from the ID.3, equipped with a 55 kWh battery (52 kWh usable), delivering 125 kW of power and a top speed of 160 kph. WLTP range specifics are not yet available, paralleling the ID.3’s 388 kilometers.
The Elroq 85 and 85x variants feature the familiar 82 kWh gross/77 kWh net battery configuration. Unlike the newer 79 kWh net version seen in the ID.3 GTX, the Elroq sticks with the proven APP550 electric motor for the 85 variant, offering 210 kW of power and 545 Nm of torque. The Elroq 85x, the sole all-wheel-drive model, incorporates a second electric motor on the front axle, providing a combined output of 220 kW.
Skoda highlights the Elroq’s robust design and practicality, distinguishing it from other MEB models. It introduces the brand’s new ‘Modern Solid’ design language, emphasizing robustness, functionality, and a sense of safety.
“The Modern Solid design language represents a fundamental change: it combines robustness, functionality, and authenticity while conveying a sense of safety and strength,” Skoda elaborated.
Noteworthy design elements include Skoda lettering on the front, a ‘Tech-Deck-Face’ sensor unit in place of the traditional radiator grille, and modern LED headlights with distinct styling.
Despite being shorter than the Enyaq at approximately 4.50 meters, the Elroq promises generous cargo space ranging from 470 to 1,580 liters, aligning it closely with models like the Ford Explorer.
Skoda’s emphasis on design and practicality underscores its ambition to carve out a unique niche in the competitive electric SUV market, setting the stage for the Elroq’s anticipated debut later this year.
