Maserati will return to motorsport to participate in Formula E as a new manufacturer from the 2022-23 season with the introduction of Gen3 cars.
Maserati last featured as a factory team in single-seat racing in 1957 after Juan Manuel Fangio won his fifth and final Formula 1 title in a 250F.
Maserati will be the second manufacturer under the Stellantis group after the DS. The two teams agreed to share the hardware, but not the software.
To participate in Formula E, Maserati will develop its own Gen3 which produces a new front engine with 250 kW and 350 kW at the rear.
âMaserati will be a technology lab to develop high-efficiency electric engines and smart software for our sports cars. Formula E is a championship suitable for this purpose and we are delighted to be the first Italian manufacturer,â said Jean Marc Finot, Senior VP of Stellantis Motorsport.
Formula E founder and chairman, Alejandro Agag welcomes Maserati’s presence in Formula E. âI am very pleased and excited to announce that Maserati is the first Italian brand to join the Formula E Championship from 2023, its ninth season. It’s great to have an Italian team in the ABB Formula E Championship.”
