LG Energy Solution (LGES) has unveiled a strategic collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies to develop cutting-edge battery management system (BMS) diagnostic solutions. The partnership aims to introduce a BMS solution that can significantly extend the lifespan of electric vehicle (EV) batteries.
“Our work with Qualcomm Technologies intends to create differentiated customer value by enabling real-time battery health diagnosis as well as the development of battery management solutions that are directly linked to driving information,” stated Hyuksung Chung, Vice President of Business Development Group at LG Energy Solution.

LGES and Qualcomm are set to embark on the development of their BMS using the Snapdragon Digital Chassis platform. This platform is expected to deliver a computing power increase of over 80X, incorporating additional AI processing blocks. Furthermore, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Digital Chassis is anticipated to enhance battery analysis algorithms through the integration of AI technologies.
BMS plays a critical role in monitoring and managing battery usage to ensure optimal performance. These solutions provide vehicle owners with crucial data such as current, voltage, and temperature, enabling the detection and prevention of battery issues.

The relevance of BMS solutions is expected to grow as EVs integrate lifestyle functions such as movie playback, online shopping, and other entertainment features. Electric vehicles are increasingly being viewed as multi-purpose spaces rather than just modes of transportation.
