Svolt Energy’s battery plant in Thailand has commenced mass production, the battery manufacturer, spun off from Great Wall Motor, announced today.
The plant has initiated bulk deliveries of products and will soon integrate them into several new energy vehicle (NEV) models in Thailand under Great Wall Motor’s Ora, Tank, and Haval brands, as well as models from Hozon New Energy Automobile, the parent company of Neta Auto.
While the plant’s exact capacity was not disclosed in the release, Svolt Energy anticipates supplying more than 20,000 battery packs to local customers this year, based on demand from customers.

Construction of the Sriracha Chonburi-based plant began on July 5, 2023, with the facility converted from a locally leased space.
The plant is expected to have a capacity of 60,000 modules and packs per year, featuring two production linesāone for manufacturing battery modules for hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and battery electric vehicles (BEVs), and another for assembling packs.
On December 20, 2023, Svolt Energy announced the first battery pack came off the line at its Thailand plant. The pack, Svolt Energy’s LCTP battery pack, boasts a 60 kWh capacity, providing a CLTC range of up to 500 km. It is based on lithium iron phosphate chemistry and utilizes Svolt Energy’s L600 series cells.

The Thailand plant plays a crucial role in Svolt Energy’s global presence and is a joint venture between the company’s Thai subsidiary and Banpu NEXT, a subsidiary of international energy giant Banpu Group.
In a separate press release today, Svolt Energy disclosed a strategic cooperation agreement with Banpu NEXT signed on February 27 to deepen their partnership. The agreement aims to enhance localized cooperation in energy storage, battery cells, and recycling. It positions the two companies as strategic partners in the Asia-Pacific region, focusing on lithium battery assembly, energy storage system assembly, and battery cell production.
The agreement also includes plans for a feasibility study on localized production of battery cells to meet Thailand’s policy requirements, in preparation for localized battery production in Thailand from 2026.

Svolt Energy, originally the power battery division of Great Wall Motor, began power battery research and development in 2012. It became independent from Great Wall Motor in February 2018, focusing on next-generation battery materials, cells, modules, packs, BMS, and energy storage technologies.
