According to a report from Spanish media outlet La Tribuna de Automoción, Stellantis is gearing up to commence production of electric cars based on the STLA Small platform at its plants in Spain by 2026. The report indicates a purported model schedule and initial forecasts for unit numbers.
Citing “reliable industry sources,” La Tribuna de Automoción reveals that Stellantis intends to initiate production at its Zaragoza plant, with the next generation of the Peugeot e-208 slated for assembly starting December 2026. Following suit, the next Opel Corsa Electric is purportedly scheduled for production from May 2027, with the new Peugeot e-2008 expected to roll off the production line at the Vigo plant from September 2027.

These assertions align with previous indications of Stellantis’ intentions. In November 2023, the company reportedly assured the Vigo works council of plans to manufacture small electric cars based on the STLA Small platform at the Vigo plant from 2027 or 2028. The anticipated production of the new e-2008 model from Vigo is seen as a logical step, given the current generation’s production at the facility, based on the e-CMP platform.
While Stellantis has yet to officially confirm these production plans, La Tribuna de Automoción now provides details on a potential timetable and production quantities. The report suggests that in 2028, Stellantis plans to manufacture 335,000 units of the 208 and Corsa in Zaragoza—the first full year for the new Corsa and 2008 models—and 182,000 units of the Peugeot 2008 in Vigo.

It should be noted that these figures encompass production for the entire series, including combustion engine variants. However, given Stellantis’ commitment to electrification across its brand lineup, the majority of these units are expected to be electric vehicles (EVs). Opel, for instance, is reportedly set to transition into a pure EV brand by 2028.
Despite the optimistic production forecasts, doubts have been raised regarding Stellantis’ projected sales figures. While the company aims for 335,000 small car sales from Zaragoza in 2028, industry sources cited by La Tribuna de Automoción anticipate a lower figure of 216,000 vehicles.

While the future of the Lancia Ypsilon remains uncertain, plans are reportedly advancing for the successors of the Citroën C3 Aircross and Opel Crossland at the Zaragoza plant. These models are expected to be based on the CMP Smart Car platform, offering affordable EV options. Negotiations between Stellantis and the Spanish government regarding subsidies are reportedly ongoing, with final approval pending.
