A Cybertruck owner, covering over 10,000 miles, has provided valuable insights into the performance of Tesla’s all-electric pickup. The particular model in focus is the Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive (AWD) variant, as shared by a member of the Cybertruck Owners Club forum, known as Gigahorse.

While the Cybertruck AWD boasts an official range of 340 miles (547km), real-world usage has presented a different scenario. The owner reported a maximum range of 206 miles (331km) on a full charge and 164 miles (264km) at an 80% charge after the 10,000-mile mark. Variables such as driving style, road conditions, and temperature were acknowledged as influencing factors, with the owner mentioning a mix of driving conditions, including “mostly fairly aggressive driving.”

Energy consumption figures revealed an average of 599 watt-hours per mile (Wh/mi) (372Wh/km), with fluctuations based on driving conditions. Notably, highway driving tended to be less efficient, occasionally spiking to over 900 Wh/mi (559Wh/km).

Charging the Cybertruck posed some challenges, with the majority taking place at home and some at Superchargers and destination charging points. Older V2 (150kW) Supercharger stations were reported to have less-than-ideal charging speeds, taking up to two hours for a full charge on the 123kWh battery. Newer V3 Superchargers (250kW) improved this, but a complete charge still required over an hour.

Despite these challenges, the Cybertruck garnered praise for its exceptional sound system, comfortable cooled seats, and overall driving experience. Positive feedback extended to the truck’s handling, acceleration, and steer-by-wire system. However, the distinctive design of the Cybertruck was noted as a double-edged sword, drawing attention from the public but sometimes leading to a less enthusiastic ownership experience.

Insurance costs were deemed reasonable at US$465 per month for two drivers with clean records. Nevertheless, the ownership experience was not without hiccups, with concerns raised about issues like the main screen blacking out and the non-waterproof bed vault.

In conclusion, while the Cybertruck offers a unique driving experience, it is not without its flaws. Real-world range and charging speeds emerged as areas requiring improvement, and potential buyers are advised to carefully weigh these considerations. This firsthand account from a high-mileage owner provides a crucial perspective on the practical aspects of owning and driving a Tesla Cybertruck.
