Bucharest-based energy company OMV Petrom is set to enhance its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure by acquiring Renovatio’s network. The company plans to increase the number of Renovatio charging points to approximately 650 by 2026, with the transaction expected to close in the first half of this year, subject to certain conditions.
In line with its commitment to bolster the EV charging landscape, OMV Petrom previously announced plans in July 2023 to install over 400 new High Power Charging (HPC) points with a capacity of 150 kW each at 98 locations in Romania, Slovakia, and Hungary by the end of 2025.

A majority of these locations (80) will be in Romania, where the company already operates an existing network of around 270 EV charging points, including through collaborative efforts with partners like Renovatio.
In addition to the EV charging network expansion, OMV Petrom is set to acquire a 50 per cent stake in Electrocentrale Borzesti, a subsidiary of RNV Infrastructure. Electrocentrale Borzesti operates renewable energy sources with a capacity of one gigawatt, and the partners plan to invest 1.3 billion euros by 2027 to advance renewable initiatives in Romania.
Christina Verchere, CEO of OMV Petrom, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Renovatio, emphasizing the company’s commitment to building a robust and diversified portfolio of renewable projects. Verchere stated, “Our ambition is to maintain our leadership position in the energy field in South-Eastern Europe, while transforming the business for a lower carbon future.”
Renovatio CEO Aurel Arion shared similar sentiments, highlighting the joint effort to contribute to the objectives of the European Green Deal and foster sustainable development in electric mobility services. Arion stated, “We strongly believe that together, by combining our strengths and values, we will contribute to achieving the objectives of the European Green Deal, as well as a healthier environment for the industry and the community.”
