Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer BYD has extended its global reach by introducing the Atto 3 model in the Philippines in collaboration with local dealer AC Motor, a subsidiary of the Ayala Group. The launch, which took place on November 17, showcases BYD’s commitment to providing high-quality and affordable EV options in the Philippine market.
BYD offers two versions of the Atto 3 in the Philippines – the standard range version and the long-range version, priced at 1,598,000 Philippine pesos ($28,830) and 1,798,000 Philippine pesos, respectively. The pricing strategy reflects BYD’s consideration of local market demand and purchasing power.
The Atto 3, known as the Yuan Plus in China, is BYD’s first SUV built on the all-electric platform, e-platform 3.0, designed for global markets. Launched in China on February 19, 2022, the model has gained popularity in various regions, including Thailand, Singapore, New Zealand, and Brazil. BYD announced plans to introduce several competitive new energy vehicle (NEV) models in global markets during an investor conference on November 15.
James Ng, General Manager of BYD Philippines and Singapore, noted that the Atto 3, as BYD’s first globalized model, has achieved global sales exceeding 500,000 units. The Philippines is part of BYD’s broader strategy for global expansion, and the company has partnered with AC Motors, a subsidiary of the Ayala Group since August. AC Motors will handle sales and maintenance of BYD models in the Philippines through its established network.
In addition to the Atto 3, AC Motors is set to introduce three more BYD models in the Philippines – the Han EV, Tang EV, and Dolphin. The Atto 3 made its local debut at the Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit held last month, showcasing BYD’s commitment to contributing to the country’s electric mobility landscape.
