XPeng, the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, has already installed almost 200 charging stations with the latest S4 ultra-fast chargers. The company launched a charging station upgrade program earlier this year, and has upgraded over 160 stations with S4 charging capability so far. These upgrades cover 91 cities across China and allow for charging piles with maximum outputs of 360 kW and 480 kW. Including the new S4 charging stations, XPeng now has 186 ultra-fast charging stations in operation in China.
XPeng’s charging network added 349 third-party charging stations in Q1 of this year, which are free to use for the company’s vehicle owners. As of April 1, XPeng’s charging network had a cumulative total of over 2,200 charging stations, over 1,000 of which are operated by the company itself.

The Chinese EV manufacturer plans to expand its S4 ultra-fast charging network, with the goal of adding around 500 S4 ultra-fast charging-capable stations in 2023. XPeng aims to have over 2,000 such stations in operation by 2025, according to the company’s G9 launch event last September 21.
The first S4 ultra-fast charging station was completed on August 15, 2022, marking the company’s 1,000th self-operated charging station. The station has a maximum power of 480 kW, a maximum current of 670 A, and a peak charging power of 400 kW. In a real-world test, XPeng’s flagship SUV, the G9, was able to get a CLTC range of 210 km in just 5 minutes when using this S4 ultra-fast charging station.
To put this into perspective, Tesla’s V3 supercharger has a maximum power of 250 kW and a maximum current of 631 A, allowing for a range of 150 km in 5 minutes. With XPeng’s expansion plans for its ultra-fast charging network, the company is positioning itself as a strong contender in the Chinese EV market.
