Ford Motor Company announced on Friday plans to develop its second electric truck, code-named Project T3, which is set to be produced at the company’s BlueOval City EV mega-campus. Ford is aiming to begin production of Project T3 in 2025, with the truck being touted as a platform for endless innovation and capability.
Jim Farley, CEO of Ford, described Project T3 as a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to revolutionize America’s truck” and said it would meld “100 years of Ford truck know-how with world-class electric vehicle, software, and aerodynamics talent.” He also said the new truck would be “like the Millennium Falcon – with a back porch attached.”
Ford’s Project T3 is part of the company’s ongoing push to accelerate EV production, with the automaker planning to achieve a two million run production rate by 2026. Ford’s BlueOval City EV mega-campus, which is being constructed on a nearly 6-square-mile site in Stanton, Tennessee, is expected to play a critical role in the automaker’s plans.
The BlueOval City EV mega-campus will be capable of producing 500,000 electric trucks per year, and it is being designed to be Ford’s first carbon-neutral campus. The automaker aims to power all its plants globally with renewable and carbon-free electricity by 2035. In addition, Ford is planning an on-site supplier park to speed up customization, including the robotic installation of spray-in bed liners and integrated toolboxes before the electric trucks are sent to customers.
As Farley said, “We are melding our expertise in trucks with our expertise in electric vehicles, software, and aerodynamics to deliver a truck that is fully capable of towing, hauling, exporting power, and endless innovations.” With Project T3, Ford is looking to further grow and reinvent its truck franchise, building on the success of the F-150 Lightning electric pickup that was launched in May 2022.
Innovation and the relentless pursuit of excellence are the hallmarks of great companies, and Ford is no exception. As the company looks to the future, it is clear that electric trucks will play a critical role in the automotive industry, and Ford is positioning itself to be at the forefront of this transformation. With Project T3, the company is once again demonstrating its commitment to delivering high-quality, innovative vehicles that meet the needs of its customers.
