Volkswagen’s second generation ID.3 electric vehicle is set to debut in less than a week, and the automaker has teased the new model with a video showing the refreshed face of the ID.3. The sneak peek offers a glimpse of the car’s updated headlights and sleek new design.
The ID.3 was the first of Volkswagen’s “ID” series and represented a new focus on electric vehicles after the automaker ended production of the e-Golf in 2019. The ID.3 was launched in 2020 as Volkswagen’s first dedicated electric vehicle based on the automaker’s MEB platform, which is also the foundation for the highly regarded ID.4.

The modular electric drive matrix (MEB) platform design provides the ID.3 with a spacious interior, a decent range of 200 to 340 miles, and an agile drive due to the car’s low center of gravity. These features have made the ID.3 one of the top-selling EVs in many European countries, and the model recently entered the competitive Chinese EV market.

During its first year on the market, the ID.3 gathered over 144,000 orders in Europe, and Volkswagen plans to release a new, second-generation ID.3 on March 1. The refresh will come with a slew of upgrades, including a sharpened exterior design, improved tech and software, and a focus on sustainability with new materials on the interior.

Although powertrain details are still unknown, Volkswagen has announced that the ID.3 Life will start at €43,995 (about $46,000), including VAT, before the environmental bonus. Production currently takes place at Volkswagen’s plants in Zwickau and Dresden, Germany, but due to high demand, it will be expanded to the main Volkswagen factory in Wolfsburg.
German customers who ordered pre-configured models over the past few months can expect their EVs to arrive in the fourth quarter of 2023. While unfortunately not available in the US, the new generation of the ID.3 promises to be an exciting step forward in Volkswagen’s commitment to sustainable electric vehicles.
