Mazda has revealed that it will release the new Mazda MX-30 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) in the near future, the rotary engine is back!
On the official Mazda Europe media page, the new Mazda MX-30 PHEV car will be launched at the 2023 Brussels Motor Show. The launch of the new Mazda MX-30 PHEV car will be held on Friday (13/1) at 10.00 local time or 16.00 WIB.
Not only revealing when and where the MX-30 PHEV was launched, Mazda didn’t forget to provide a teaser photo in the form of a logo. The logo has the shape of a rotor on a Wankel engine with an ‘e’ in the center.
Of course, this logo indicates that the Mazda MX-30 PHEV uses Mazda’s new rotary Wankel engine as the electricity generator. The issue of Mazda’s Wankel rotary engine returning as an electric generator has been around for quite some time.
Confirmed in 2018, the rotary engine was initially prepared to become Mazda’s future electric car range extender. The presence of this range extender can certainly help the Mazda MX-30 EV, which has a battery with a claimed mileage of only 200 kilometers.
However, in 2021, Mazda had postponed the presence of a rotary engine for the MX-30, which was originally planned to launch in 2022.
Mazda said at the time that adding a rotary engine to the range extender would require huge costs and a bigger battery.
Now, with the confirmation of the MX-30 PHEV, potential Mazda MX-30 customers can get one more powertrain option that is more potential and safe from range anxiety.
The Mazda MX-30 PHEV will hit the European market in spring and there is no word on whether the rotary engine MX-30 will make it to other markets.
