Nissan will launch a new electric sports car at the end of this decade. The car, which is named the Nismo Electric Sport Car, is predicted to be a replacement for the Nissan GT-R.
“We have a very important vision in Europe, which is a new car. The UK is a strategic and special region for us, especially for car performance. So we will introduce an attractive model to the UK market under the Nismo brand,” said Nissan CEO Takao Katagiri.
Nissan has not announced when it will launch the Nismo Electric. Many have speculated that Nissan is not in a hurry to produce this electric car. This is because Nissan will use solid state batteries which cannot be sold commercially because the costs are quite high.
Previously, Nissan had also expressed its desire to launch a vehicle powered by a solid state battery. They will start producing cars with this power starting in 2028. Based on this, it is likely that this electric sports car will launch in 2028.
Nissan is also faced with fierce competition from other automotive manufacturers in developing solid state batteries in 2029-2030. Its toughest rivals are Porsche, Polestar to McLaren.
It is not yet known how much the selling price of the Nissan Nismo electric sports car will be. The four-wheeled vehicle manufacturer from Japan also did not disclose the specifications for this new electric car.
