Maserati launch Tipo Folgore Gen3 car for Formula E ABB FIA season 2023

As is well known, starting in 2023 Maserati will compete in the Formula E championship, joining the Monaco-based ROKiT Venturi Racing team.

Maserati announced its comeback to motorsport at the beginning of the year. Now it’s time to reveal the single-seater racing car that is ready to compete in Formula E, this racing car is named: Maserati Tipo Folgore Gen3.

On the streets of Modena, Italy, new Maserati team MSG Racing unveiled a car that will be driven by Maximilian Günther and Edoardo Mortara.

The Maserati Tipo Folgore is the car that will take part in the ninth season of the Formula E championship, which will start on January 14 in Mexico City. Maserati Tipo Folgore is a name that has several meanings.

The designation of the name reminds us of two important things for the Italian company. The Tipo, like the Tipo 26, was Maserati’s first race car. The race car won in class at the debut of the Targa Florio in 1926.

96 years later, the single-seater race car’s name also includes the word “Folgore”, identifying the automaker’s 100% electric model.

The Maserati Tipo Folgore was designed to offer a contemporary look and feel, while being claimed by the manufacturer as the fastest and most efficient Formula E car to date.

Like all Gen3 race cars, the Tipo Folgore will be powered by a dual motor setup, for a total power of 600 kW – 816 ps (approx. 805 hp). Regenerative power is 95% energy efficient, with over 40% of the energy used in racing coming from regenerative braking alone.

Maserati also has a design that will set it apart from its competitors. Maserati opted for the same colors used by the MC12 in the early 2000s, with white details and a large Trident printed on the front.

The new Maserati Tipo Folgore will head to Valencia, Spain for pre-season testing of Formula E. After that, it will hit the track at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez City in Mexico City on January 14, 2023.
