Volvo revealed the form of the latest electric car which is an SUV type and is smaller than the newly launched EX90. The public guessed that the SUV was the EX30, the smallest variant of Volvo’s electric car line-up.
Even though it doesn’t show the full appearance clearly, the manufacturer says that their entire EV line-up is already using the new SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture) platform.
The SEA is a modular platform, meaning it can accommodate a wide range of vehicle sizes, from large SUVs like the EX90 and Polestar.
The smallest version (SEA-E, the ‘E’ stands for “entry”), is already used in the new Smart #1, a car that will rival Volvo’s new small SUV.
In the Smart #1, there’s a maximum range of 273 miles on a single charge and the 150kW recharge rate allows charging 10 to 80 percent of its 66kWh battery.
Looking at its size, this Baby Volvo looks like it will be an electric car to attract young people like Gen-Z. Of course this is out of the way of the manufacturer and has never been done before in Volvo’s 95 years of existence.
This was also emphasized by CEO Jim Rowan who said he wanted to get out of the safe zone and maximize online purchases and short-term subscription-based ownership to lure younger drivers.
âHaving a direct relationship with that customer at a very early age is very important in this fast-paced information technology era. And if we do our job right, we can keep our customers. Remember, they’re going to get married and have a dog and have kids and want a second car.” Rowan said.
