Market research data shows the Tesla Model Y topped new vehicle registrations in Europe last month. Tesla’s electric midsize SUV is fast becoming the vehicle of choice on the old continent.
Data from JATO Dynamics shows this is the first time Tesla vehicles have led the rankings in Europe with 29,367 Model Y cars registered last month, up 227% from a year ago.
Peugeot 208 and Dacia Sandero are third in the September rankings.
The Model Y is one of the most successful electric vehicles Tesla has produced so far. In total, the manufacturer from the United States produced 879,346 units of the Model Y so far this year compared to 906,032 units last year.
This can not be separated from the increased production of the Giga Berlin which was just inaugurated in March. Giga Berlin is Tesla’s first production facility in Europe and the second outside of America after Giga Shanghai.
Giga Berlin’s current production capacity is 2,000 cars per week, producing only the Model Y.
Earlier this month, Tesla warned of logistical challenges that are likely to hamper vehicle deliveries in the near future.
