INDIEV announced a memorandum of understanding with Foxconn to build the first INDI One prototype vehicle at its Ohio plant.
INDIEV will follow Fisker and Lordstown Motors who use Foxconn’s services to produce electric vehicles.
“Our MOU with INDIEV marks the beginning of many forthcoming discussions regarding the future of EV manufacturing in Ohio,” said Jerry Hsiao, Foxconn chief product officer. “Throughout this process, Foxconn is confident in its workforce in Ohio to produce quality prototypes that will help INDIEV achieve future success.”
INDIEV is a Los Angeles-based electric vehicle startup founded by Steve Orsario and Steven Offutt, two former Faraday Future executives, in 2017.
INDIEV is launching the INDI One in the fall of 2021, and is described as a $45,000 electric crossover.
The INDI One uses a 95 kWh battery that allows a range of up to 300 miles (483 km). This electric vehicle comes with two electric motors that turn all four wheels and produce a combined 410 hp (302 kW/416 PS).
INDI One was first introduced to the public at CES in January. The company then said it would take orders for the electric crossover in the first quarter of 2022 and would start shipping vehicles this year. That plan appears to have been changed, but will now get production assistance from Foxconn.
INDI One is claimed to be built with a unique approach and comes with high quality from the manufacturing and engineering side of consumer electronics
“Partnering with Foxconn, the world leader in consumer electronics, during this exciting time in their entry into electric vehicles means that INDI One drivers will lead the way to the future of private transit.” said INDIEV CEO Shi Hai.
Foxconn itself took control of the Ohio facility in May this year. Lordstown Motors with the help of Foxconn will also use the facility to build its electric pickup truck. The Fisker Pear and tractors from DBA Monarch Tractor will also be produced at the same site.
