Celebrating a partnership with MOBA game League of Legends and video game publisher, Riot Games, Mercedes-Benz recently launched a virtual concept car with a futuristic design.
Because it is a virtual concept, Mercedes-Benz can create design elements that are impossible to apply in the real world.
“Because of the virtual space, there are no limits to what we can do, which means we can push boundaries and give our creative space to the unexpected,” Mercedes-Benz designer Gorden Wagener said in a statement.
This virtual car concept looks very futuristic with bodywork that looks like it is made of acrylic glass and the wheels are protected by a kind of protective shield. The wheel design looks to be based on the 2004 Audi RSQ concept, whose proportions are somewhat similar to that of a Mercedes.
While the Audi RSQ appeared in the sci-fi film I, Robot (2004), this Mercedes-Benz virtual car concept was featured in the music video associated with the 2022 League of Legends World Championship tournament which took place in the United States from October 29 to November 5.
Mercedes has been Riot Games’ exclusive automotive partner since 2020, and in 2021 Wagener and the Mercedes design team designed the Championship Ring for the League of Legends World Championship. The Championship Ring features a small Mercedes-Benz star logo, as well as synthetic diamonds made from CO2 extracted from the atmosphere.
