Ford Electric Mach Technologies (FMeT) has been founded in China by Ford to develop electric vehicles. In addition, the US auto giant is also building an independent direct sales network in the country under the Ford Select brand.
“Intensively engaged in the development and operation of intelligent electric vehicles,” said Ford China’s announcement on its official WeChat account.
FmeT will establish an electrification center with a primary focus on battery and electric motor development, as well as a digitalization center and advanced driver assistance.
FmeT was founded to adapt its products to the needs of Chinese consumers, which is one of the three largest electric vehicle markets in the world besides the US and Europe.
So far, Ford’s electric vehicle portfolio in China is the Mustang Mach-E, which has only sold 2,098 units since production began in China in October 2021.
Meanwhile Ford Select is projected to handle sales in China through an exclusive direct sales network for premium electric vehicles.
Ford Select currently has 106 sales outlets in 43 cities and will open its first Ford Select flagship store in Shanghai later this year.
