SEA Electric recently expanded its assembly facility in suburban Melbourne. The Australian electric truck manufacturer currently has assembly facilities that have expanded to now cover 8,000 square meters on a total site of 15,000 square meters.
With this expansion, SEA Electric targets to produce eight electric trucks per day or up to 2,080 units per year.
The assembly facility uses 100kW rooftop solar panels, generating 129MWh of energy to date, with 86MWh exported back to the grid. The plant produces 60 percent more energy than it consumes.
SEA Electric is also equipping its own trucks with on-site vehicle-to-grid (V2G) capability to stabilize the network.
SEA Electric comes with four electric power systems and allows customers to select a new cab chassis from their preferred OEM supplier. SEA Electric then improved upon the SEA-Drive platform the customer had chosen to deliver the ultimate electric powered product.
SEA Electric has been manufacturing electric trucks since 2019 and has served several companies including Ikea Australia working with an external logistics company whose vehicles were refitted by local conversion specialist SEA Electric.
In 2021, SEA Electric launches commercial volume production of electric trucks: Two vehicles with the SEA Electric badge, the SEA 300 and SEA 500, based on the Hino 500 Series and Hino 300 Series models.
In 2021, the company scored a large electric truck order in the US when GATR EV, a division of GATR Truck Centers, ordered 1,150 electric trucks from SEA Electric.
Late last year, the company received an order to convert 10,000 US school buses. This fully electric bus will have a vehicle-to-grid (V2G) function.
