The Tesla Cybertruck is perhaps the most controversial electric pickup. Since the concept car was first introduced in 2019, the Cybertruck has managed to ignite the electric truck fever, especially in the North American region.
It’s just that the production version never came in real form as a mass product. Meanwhile, competitors such as Ford, Rivian and Hummer have already started rolling out electric truck models on the market.
Previously, Elon Musk said that production of the Cybertruck would begin in the first half of 2023. However, the production schedule delays that have occurred several times before have undermined public confidence in Tesla.
A tougher move for Musk to take back the heart of the market.
But Elon Musk doesn’t seem to have lost his mind. In a recent tweet on Twitter, he said that their flagship electric pickup is not only waterproof but can also function as a boat. Tesla CEO Elon Musk claims the Tesla Cybertruck electric pickup can function as a boat and be able to cross rivers.
This was revealed by Musk through his official Twitter account. He tweeted that the Tesla Cybertruck will be an electric car that is waterproof.
Because it is impermeable to water, the electric pickup will be able to be used like a boat. “Cybertrucks can cross rivers, lakes and even seas that are not too choppy,” said Elon Musk.
In a subsequent tweet, Elon Musk even described the waterproof capabilities that the Tesla Cybertruck will have later. “The car must be able to travel from Starbase to the Padre Islands which do have to cross a canal,” he wrote again.

This isn’t the first time Musk has tweeted about the Cybertruck’s aquatic capabilities. In April 2020, Musk posted on social media that the truck would “float temporarily.” Musk is now saying that the Cybertruck will be able to traverse rivers, lakes and seas that are less choppy.
It’s just that Elon Musk has not elaborated on the waterproof capabilities of the Tesla Cybertruck. It’s just that it is not impossible to realize.
Because in the history of the automotive world, amphibious cars are not new. The 36th President of the United States even had an amphibious car which he named the Amphicar.
The car was made by German designer Hans Trippel and was inspired by another amphibious car popular in the Second World War, the Volkswagen Schwimmwagen.
What’s interesting is that both the Amphicar and Volkswagen Schwimmwagen have propellers that work while in the water. That’s what the Tesla Cybertruck doesn’t seem to have.
Moreover, from the design that has been revised repeatedly, the Tesla Cybertruck is not equipped with a propeller. The waterproof ability of the car can indeed make the electric pickup made by Elon Musk float in water. It’s just that it takes another tool that can make the electric pickup navigate rivers, lakes, to the sea without waves.
Is it true that Musk’s tweet will come true?
We’ll just have to wait for the first half of next year and hopefully the launch schedule won’t be delayed anymore.
