Solaris and Hermes signed a contract for ten Trollino 18s electric buses which are scheduled to arrive in the city of Arnhem in the first half of 2024.
Dutch transport company Hermes will get an electric bus equipped with a traction battery with a capacity of about 90 kWh. The trolleybus ordered also allows a “several dozen kilometers” range without the above wires.
The battery of the bus will be charged using mobile charging technology with overhead lines. The Solaris Trollino 18 will be powered by a 240 kW electric motor.
The signing of this contract marks the first Solaris electric bus to be used in the Netherlands.
The trolleybus will operate in the city of Arnhem which has a population of more than 150,000. Arnhem is widely recognized as an important industrial, scientific and cultural center.
Arnhem is the only city in the Netherlands with a working electric bus system. The vehicles ordered will make it possible to expand transport links between the university in Arnhem and the university in Wageningen.
Ordered electric buses are designed in response to the latest trends in the public transport industry. The first vehicle in this style is reportedly the Trollino 24, which the company presented at Busworld 2019 in Brussels.
Solaris has been on the Dutch market since 2017, when Transdev ordered 40 units of the 18 articulated Solaris Urbino. The transport company Hermes, where Solaris has worked for several years, is part of the Dutch Transdev group.
Since then, the Solaris fleet operating on the roads in the Netherlands has grown by 26 vehicles – including 20 hydrogen buses. According to Solaris, to date nearly 2,000 Solaris electric buses have been delivered to 60 cities in 18 countries.
