Porsche Cars North America announced a partnership with Cherry Street Energy to install a solar microgrid to be used for EV chargers at its headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia.
Porsche targets the solar-powered Microgrid to be used to supply most of the energy its headquarters will need within a year. Cherry Street Energy estimates the installed solar microgrid will generate 2,050 megawatt hours of power annually.
The resulting energy will reduce Porsche’s annual CO2 emissions by 3.2 million pounds per year. The amount is equivalent to avoiding 3.6 million miles of driving in a vehicle with an internal combustion engine.
“Powering our North American home and our Taycan fleet through harnessing the Georgia sunshine makes perfect sense, and is a great demonstration of our commitment to sustainability,” said Kjell Gruner, President and CEO of PCNA. “This solar project contributes to the overall sustainability targets of Porsche AG. In 2030, Porsche aims to be CO₂ net neutral across the entire value chain and life cycle of newly sold vehicles.”
The agreement between Porsche Cars North America and Cherry Street Energy will run for 25 years. The solar panels themselves will be installed on the roofs of new and existing buildings as well as over the staging area by the two-lane Experience Center.
