Volcon has announced a UTV powered by a GM electric propulsion system called the Volcon Stag UTV. For the GM electric propulsion used, it is not specifically discussed. The company only mentions using a battery cell module as well as “a number of supporting components from GM.”
The Volcon Stag UTV will start at $39,999 and is slated to launch in summer 2023. This four-seater UTV comes with a 42 kWh battery and an electric powertrain that produces 125 hp (93 kW / 127 PS) and 265 lb-ft (359 Nm) ) torque – with an overboost pushing things past the 140 hp (104 kW / 142 PS) mark.
This electric UTV reaches a top speed of 80 mph (129 km/h) and has a range of over 100 miles (161 km).
The Volcon Stag UTV has a four-wheel drive system, which automatically moves the front wheels whenever the rear wheels lose traction. Like today’s electric vehicles, the Volcon Stag UTV also has selectable drive modes. This electric UTV has a 7.2 kW onboard charger, which allows the battery to be recharged in under six hours.
If you are a vlog enthusiast, the Volcon Stag UTV has two built-in cameras, to share your off-road adventures. If you want more cargo space, the rear seats can be folded to provide more than 26 cubic feet (736 liters) of cargo space.
The vehicle has a payload capacity of 1,550 lbs (703 kg) as well as the ability to tow up to 2,000 lbs (907 kg).
Volcon CTO Christian Okonsky noted, “Everyone at Volcon has worked so hard to bring the best possible UTV to market and our alignment with GM could not be a better fit for making this project become a reality. We save an enormous amount of R&D expense and gain years of drivetrain testing and validation by joining forces with GM.”
