Daimler Truck opens electric truck charging station, can be used for various manufacturers

Daimler Trucks has completed construction of the electric truck charging station (eTruck Charging Park) of Mercedes-Benz Trucks, together with its project partner, the service division Netze BW near the Application Information Center (BIC) in Wörth am Rhein, Germany.

At the eTruck Charging Park, electric truck customers can now test charging stations and charging concepts from various manufacturers and work with experts from Mercedes-Benz to develop tailor-made charging solutions for applications from all electric truck brands.

The charging technology on these charging stations is provided for testing and combined with a comprehensive suite of consulting services to help customers move smoothly into the era of e-mobility.

The construction of the eTruck Charging Park is one of Daimler’s missions, which does not only offer electric trucks and buses, but also provides integrated solutions that include consulting and supporting infrastructure solutions for electric battery vehicles.

Michael Scheib, Head of Product Management of Mercedes-Benz Trucks said that in its transformation to e-mobility, Mercedes-Benz’s goal is to offer more than just electric trucks to its customers.

“We wanted to provide a solution. Our charging stations for customers in Wörth are an integral part of this approach and show customers, in a practical and tangible way, what the right charging infrastructure for their fleet looks like,” he explained in his official release, Wednesday. (27/7/2022).

For starters, the eTruck Charging Park has six charging stations from various manufacturers with power outputs ranging from 40 kW to 300 kW. As charging technology continues to develop rapidly, Daimler admits that this station will be equipped with MCS (megawatt charging system) charging as the next step.

In addition, eTruck Charging Park can also handle critical electric truck issues such as grid connection, local energy generation, energy storage, and intelligent management of charging processes.

While proving to its customers, Daimler has also placed Mercedes-Benz eActros electric trucks in both the 300 and 400 series in the station with the aim of giving customers the opportunity to get an immediate impression of the efficiency, range and charging capabilities of the electric trucks.

With this, customers can sketch a complete electrical solution for their personal needs together with the experts. The photovoltaic system on the roof where it is charged can serve as a stationary storage which will demonstrate the possibility of efficient power supply for the charging station.

Axel Hausen as the Head of the e-mobility project specifically for the Netze BW service division revealed that in addition to technology development of all the necessary components, the development of electric charging infrastructure is one of the important factors for the success of electric heavy-duty transportation.

“Together with our parent company, EnBW, we contributed a lot of expertise in charging infrastructure and the energy industry to the project. At Wörth, we work with investors such as e-fleet operators, truck manufacturers, industrial and commercial customers, and municipalities to develop individual charging solutions that will help with heavy-duty electric transportation.”
