MAN Truck & Bus plans to offer electric bus chassis for the global market. In the early stages, MAN will offer low-floor, low-entry, and inter-city buses. Buyers can develop their electric buses using chassis from MAN.
MAN said it had received more than 1,000 orders to date. The chassis is based on technology from Lion’s City E which is widely used in European countries.
MAN said that with their electric bus chassis, it is hoped that it can promote environmentally friendly mobility.
“further advance environmentally friendly mobility and make traffic in cities all over the world even cleaner, quieter and safer,” writes MAN.
With the new e-chassis, MAN will also offer LFP batteries. It is less expensive, but allows lower range due to its lower energy density.

“Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for all our customers to get started with electromobility. And we can do this with a product that is safe, reliable, has a long range and is extremely flexible,” says Barbaros Oktay, Head of Bus Engineering at MAN Truck & Bus.
The chassis and battery can be customized according to individual user needs. MAN does not mention the size or range of batteries that can be used in its announcement. According to Oktay, the chassis made by MAN can also be used for inter-city use other than urban transportation.
The first prototype of the MAN electric bus chassis will be delivered in 2023. The start of series production is planned for 2024. The MAN electric bus chassis will be manufactured in Starachowice, Poland where the Lion’s City E is also manufactured.
