Polestar confirmed the launch of the premium all-electric SUV 3 in October this year. The planned launch of Polestar 3 will create new competition in the electric SUV segment along with the Audi e-tron and BMW iX.
Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath said the brand will form a global partnership with car rental company Hertz to supply 65,000 cars over the next five years, although Polestar admits the number of vehicles shipped this year has fallen to 50,000.
“The short-to-medium-term economic effect does not detract from our goal of selling 290,000 cars by 2025 or 10 times more than we will sell in 2021.” said Ingenlath quoted by Auto Express, Tuesday (24/5/2022).

The Polestar 3 will also share its production facilities with the XC90 SUV at the Volvo plant in South Carolina. “The Polestar 3 will be manufactured in America, for our American customers,” said Ingenlath.
A teaser image published by Polestar 3 shows the electric SUV will have a low-key crossover-like design, and may look more dynamic than the Polestar 2.
The automaker also revealed the Polestar 3 will be equipped with advanced self-driving road driving technology that uses LiDAR sensors with Luminar and Nvidia computing power.

Meanwhile, Polestar is also working on at least two other models, namely the Polestar 4 and 5. The Model 4 is planned to be launched in 2023 and will be positioned as a smaller electric coupe SUV, while the Polestar 5 will hit the market in 2024 as a four-door GT.
