PPC Blue will install and operate 30 fast-charging points along Romania’s A7 motorway under a partnership with Romanian oil company Oscar Downstream. The project will include charging infrastructure for passenger cars as well as electric trucks and buses at motorway service areas near Milcovul.
The agreement covers the installation and operation of the charging facilities for 30 years, corresponding to the concession period granted to Oscar Downstream to manage service areas on both sides of the motorway.
Of the 30 charging points, 16 are designated for electric passenger cars. These stations have already been installed by the motorway operator and each provides a minimum output of 150 kW. PPC Blue will commission them once the concession agreement takes effect.
The remaining 14 charging points will be installed by PPC Blue for electric trucks and buses, with each designed to deliver at least 350 kW.
Infrastructure Targets Passenger and Heavy-Duty EVs
The Milcovul project will combine charging facilities for different vehicle categories within the same motorway service areas. The higher-power stations are intended to accommodate the charging requirements of electric heavy-duty vehicles travelling along the route.
Andreea-Dana Popescu, General Manager of PPC Blue Romania, said the project would provide charging options for both passenger vehicles and commercial transport operators.
“On a motorway, stops are short, so charging power and speed matter most. In Milcovul, we will set up high-performance charging stations for electric cars and trucks in the same service area. For hauliers switching to electric vehicles, this kind of infrastructure has to be in place before it is needed. We are pleased to launch this project together with our partner Oscar Downstream,”
Nicolae Banica, CEO of Oscar Downstream, said the charging facilities would support the development of motorway service areas for different road users.
“This project benefits both car drivers and hauliers travelling on the A7. For us, it is a natural step in developing service areas that meet the needs of the people who use them. The partnership with PPC Blue, an experienced partner, supports us in this from the very beginning,”
PPC Blue Expands Romanian Charging Network
The A7 motorway agreement is part of PPC Blue’s wider expansion in Romania. In May, the company announced plans to deploy 106 fast and ultra-fast charging points at 34 locations along major transport corridors in Romania and Greece.
In June, PPC Blue also entered a partnership with Romanian DIY retailer Dedeman to install more than 600 charging points at the retailer’s stores and logistics centres across the country.
PPC Blue currently operates more than 1,400 charging points across all Romanian counties, with a combined installed capacity exceeding 46 MW. The company describes itself as one of Romania’s largest charging infrastructure operators.
The latest project adds motorway charging facilities for heavy-duty electric vehicles to its existing network, alongside the passenger car charging infrastructure already planned for retail and transport locations.
