Great Wall Motor (GWM) reported a 15.87% year-on-year decline in vehicle sales in October, marking its steepest monthly drop this year as weakness in China continued to outweigh growth in overseas markets and new energy vehicles (NEVs).
The Chinese automaker sold 120,374 vehicles during the month, an increase of 4.72% from September, according to figures released on Sunday. October marked the third consecutive month of year-on-year sales declines, with the contraction widening from 13.99% in September.
GWM’s cumulative sales reached 1,040,676 vehicles in the first 10 months of the year, down 2.42% from the same period last year. This compared with a 0.33% decline recorded during the first nine months, indicating that the company’s year-to-date performance weakened further in October.
Domestic Sales Remain Under Pressure
China remained the main source of the company’s sales decline. GWM sold 57,512 vehicles in its domestic market in October, down 33.06% year-on-year, although sales increased 4.71% from September.
The decline extended the company’s year-on-year domestic sales contraction to 12 consecutive months. Between January and October, GWM sold 501,837 vehicles in China, representing a 25.66% decrease compared with the corresponding period in 2025.
The domestic performance contrasted with the company’s growing international business, which accounted for more than half of its total October sales.
Overseas Sales Reach New Monthly Record
GWM sold 62,862 vehicles outside China in October, surpassing its previous monthly record of 62,517 units set in August. Overseas deliveries represented 52.22% of the company’s total sales during the month.
However, the pace of international growth moderated. Overseas sales increased 9.98% year-on-year, compared with 19.40% growth in September. This was the first time this year that the company’s overseas sales growth had fallen into single digits. Deliveries nevertheless rose 4.74% month-on-month.
For the first 10 months of the year, overseas sales reached 538,839 vehicles, up 37.69% year-on-year. The cumulative figure had already exceeded the 506,066 vehicles GWM sold internationally throughout 2025.
NEV Sales Set New Monthly Record
GWM’s NEV business delivered another record in October, with sales reaching 49,499 vehicles. The figure represented a 7.25% increase from a year earlier and a 17.91% rise from September, surpassing the previous monthly record established in October 2025.
NEVs accounted for 41.12% of the company’s total October sales, exceeding the 40% threshold for the first time.
Despite the monthly improvement, cumulative NEV sales remained below the previous year’s level. GWM sold 311,466 NEVs between January and October, down 4.05% year-on-year.
The October results highlight diverging trends across GWM’s business. Record overseas and NEV sales provided support, but persistent weakness in China continued to weigh on overall performance.
